4. Cold Reheat Drains
In this fossil fired power plant, cold reheat drains are used to remove condensate
from the cold reheat line. This steam main is a high pressure / high temperature
line in the plant. The cold reheat steam line runs from the exhaust side of
the high pressure turbine back to the top side of the boiler where it is run
through the reheat superheater. Cold reheat steam drains are situated on this
line to remove start-up loads, hot running loads, and cool-down loads.
On cold reheat drain applications, the best steam trap design in the marketplace
is the Velan Multi-Segmented Bimetallic Steam Trap. The cold reheat drain
application will have a “high” start-up curve, followed by a “large” hot
running load. The only other load that will be encountered will be a “high” cool-down
load when the line is de-energized.
Due to the fact that cold reheat drains can be very high in pressure and
temperature, customers weld these applications. Velan offers steam traps and “Piping
Kings” in for cold reheat drains in A105 Carbon Steel.
Velan will offer the “SSF” Series, “N” Series or “SPF” Series
steam traps for cold reheat drain applications.
