VELAN STEAM TRAPS
WILL IMPROVE YOUR HEAT RATE
Faulty steam traps have a negative effect on plant heat rate. Steam lost through steam traps bypasses the turbine and goes directly to the condenser. These steam losses can lower generator output, increase condenser back pressure, and waste valuable fuel. Steam lost through faulty steam traps in a power plant costs far more in lost electrical generation than the fuel used to make it in the first place. Studies have showed that replacement of faulty steam traps on a turbine/generator system can be cost justified sometimes in a matter or days or weeks. |

Many of today's steam trap problems in thermal power plants are due to the use of steam trap designs which are ill suited for high pressure and superheated steam service. The Velan Steam Trap is designed specifically for superheated steam systems. Our advance design prevents the most common modes of trap failure; loss of prime, no load actuation, and waterhammer damage. Our exclusive use of STELLITE in our steam traps ensures tight shutoff and long life. If you insist on the use of STELLITE in your control and isolation valves, insist on it in your steam traps as well.
Our experience trapping high pressure and superheated steam systems goes back almost 60 years. If you are experiencing trapping problems in your plant, please give us a call at (800) 860-0233 and we will be happy to discuss them with you or schedule a plant visit.
